Dr. Alaa Murabit is keynote speaker during Peace Week

Medical doctor, sustainable development advocate, UN Commissioner, TED talker, Dr. Alaa Murabit will deliver the featured keynote address of Peace Week on September 14 at 7:00 p.m. in 5B.16. Open to the public, but a ticket is required. Please register and download a ticket.

Dr. Murabit is one of 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Global Advocates, a United Nations High-Level Commissioner for Health Employment and Economic Growth, a TED speaker, the founder of VLW and MIT Media Lab Director’s Fellow. She was recently named a 2017 Forbes Under 30 for her work in global health policy and a Harvard University Law 2017 “Woman Inspiring Change”. Nicknamed the “Libyan Doogie Howser” by Jon Stewart, Alaa founded VLW at the age of 21 and currently serves as a trustee for The Malala Fund, International Alert, and Keeping Children Safe and is an advisor to ConnectHer.

An Ashoka Fellow, Alaa is the youngest Marisa Bellisario International Humanitarian Award recipient, an Ashoka Fellow, The New York Times “International TrustWomen Hero 2014”, Newsweek’s “25 under 25 to watch”, a BBC News“100 Top Woman”, the 2015 SAFE Global Hero and a Virgin Unite Changemaker. Her TED Talk was named “TED Talk of the Day” and one of four “moving TED Talks to watch right now” by The New York Times.

All Peace Week activities are linked to the Dzʿ Peace Centre’s 2017-18 theme: Sustainable Peace: The Future of Our Well-Being, Environment and Institutions. In addition to the keynote speaker, this year’s Peace Week schedule includes: daily meditation & yoga; in collaboration with the Humanities & Public Life conference, the second speaker is a local entrepreneur, founder and CEO of Sacred Fire Productions, ; a Pop-Up Art Hive that will explore art as expression and therapy co-hosted and facilitated by the Museum of Fine Arts and the Art Hives and so much more!
