Peace Garden needs your HELP!

Share

During the pandemic, gardening was deemed essential, however for safety reasons the Sustainability department had only a handful of volunteers. Priority was given to the vegetable gardens so they could donate their harvest to local food banks and the ÆßÐDzʿª½± community. It is now time to give back to the Peace Garden.

There is an invasive weed called Aegopodium or goutweed taking over the Peace Garden and your help is needed to control it.

The Sustainability Office is excited to have more volunteers this summer and has already begun working in sections in the Peace Garden with help from interns, student volunteers and the Miriam Home and Services organization.

Did you know that soil contains Mycobacterium vaccae, which acts similarly to an antidepressant when breathed in by humans? It helps the human brain release more serotonin (happy chemical), a key neurotransmitter that helps regulate mood, metabolism, aggression, sleep and appetite.

The Sustainability Office and their Sustainabili-team interns are inviting students and employees to lend a helping hand throughout the summer by getting your hands in soil and helping in the many gardens on campus.

If you have time to spare, please send us an email at sustainability@dawsoncollege.qc.ca and they will add you to their Blue Ring TEAMS app, and simply follow the Sustainable ÆßÐDzʿª½± channel where you can fill out a doodle poll posted every 2 weeks. Any amount of time is appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
