Mahsa Amini’s legacy is alive at Dzʿ

In September 2022, Mahsa Amini was arrested in Iran for not wearing a hijab correctly. Eyewitnesses say she was severely beaten. Hours later, she died at the age of 22. Mahsa had just been admitted to university and intended to pursue law. Her death sparked protests in Iran and around the world.

At Dzʿ, the Mahsa Amini Initiative was created by students Kiana Lalavi, Shaneli Yaghoubi, Kiera Robak and Lina Adda. Their work was recognized on May 4 with the Forces Avenir Award in the category of Mutual Aid, Peace and Justice. Their project has also advanced for consideration at the provincial level.

Better sleep and well-being during remote semesters

McGill honours students Georgiana Costin and Samantha Wing, under the supervision of Catherine Fichten and the Adaptech Research Network team, evaluated the chronotype, sleep, and well-being of Dzʿ faculty, non-teaching staff, and students during the COVID-19 remote and subsequent in-person semesters.

The results demonstrate that participants with a morningness or intermediate chronotype slept better than participants with an eveningness chronotype, and that all measures indicate better sleep and well-being during the remote rather than during the in-person periods.

Thank you to all Dzʿ faculty, non-teaching staff, and students who participated in our study! We greatly appreciate your contribution.
