OAD’s Madeleine Bazerghi wins CCDMD photo contest

Madeleine Bazerghi's photo, entitled A Socially Distant Moment, has won the Concours Photo Le Monde en Images - Catégorie Personnel du réseau collégial québécois from the Centre collégial de développement de matériel didactique (CCDMD).

Madeleine works as a pedagogical counsellor in Dzʿ's Office of Academic Development and is on the Faculty Hub team.

"So I submitted to a photo contest for the very first time. Never thought of doing so but, I thought this photo worthy of representing a socially distant moment," she said.

Meygan Brody is ٲɲDz’s Valedictorian for the Class of 2021

This year’s valedictorian is a future physician with a passion for social justice. Enriched Science student Meygan Brody has been selected to address ٲɲDz’s Class of 2021 at Virtual Graduation on June 30.

Carmen Leung recognized with 2021 SALTISE Award

Dzʿ Chemistry teacher Carmen Leung “dedicates herself to teaching in ways that keep her students engaged and she contributes to all aspects of College life,” reads the announcement from SALTISE.

This week, Carmen will be honoured with a 2021 SALTISE Best Practices & Pedagogical Innovators Award at the  happening June 2-4.

Selma Hamdani receives a mention d’honneur from the AQPC

ٲɲDz’s Psychology Profile Coordinator Selma Hamdani is incredibly grateful to receive a mention d’honneur from the Association québécoise de pédagogie collégiale (AQPC).

“Whatever I do, it is not by myself,” she said. “So many vibrant and great ideas are sparked everywhere at Dzʿ. I share this honour with the Dzʿ Active Learning Community (DALC), the Office of Academic Development, the Psychology Department, the Communities of Practice and so many other people who helped me be the teacher I am today. Dzʿ is fertile ground and a special community!”

Dzʿ flags at half-mast for 215 Indigenous children

ٲɲDz’s flags were lowered to half-mast on Monday morning to honour the 215 children who lost their lives at the Kamloops Indian Residential School and their families, and the countless others who never returned home from residential schools across Canada. The flags will remain at half-mast for 215 hours in total for each life lost.

Join information sessions for all staff on new Code of Conduct

As announced in the last issue of D News, a new Code of Conduct is coming into effect on August 1 for all staff, students and visitors to the Dzʿ campus.

Human Resources, with the collaboration of Students Services, will be co-hosting two information sessions for all staff to learn more about the new Policy and provide the opportunity to ask questions:

  • Wednesday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Thursday, June 10, from 11 a.m. to noon

Please join us to learn more about how this new Policy will help ensure all members of the Dzʿ Community are not only provided a safe and healthy environment but are treated with respect and civility.

Retirees: we will celebrate you in style in Spring 2022

We wish to extend our gratitude for your service to all our colleagues who are retiring this year.

Traditionally, we host a special Recognition of Service Dinner to salute our retiring colleagues as well as those marking milestones of service to the College.

So we will not say farewell because we plan to see you in late Spring 2022 when we will host a great party for all our retirees of 2020, 2021 and 2022 as well as those marking major work anniversaries.

Law, Society and Justice Faculty Reflect on their Newly Developed Learning Community

This winter, six different faculty teams from Science, Social Science and General Education departments participated in the Learning Communities course development process. Catherine Braithwaite and Christopher Bourne, teachers in the Law Society and Justice profile in the Social Science program, agreed to share some thoughts on the collaborative design process and their project for LSJ, which pairs Canadian History (330-201-DW) with Canadian Democracy (385-306-DW).

Creating a Mentally Healthy Workplace

On May 28, the Human Resources Department hosted a three-hour workshop on creating a mentally healthy workplace. The event was led by Stefano Maiorana of Morneau Shepell, which runs ٲɲDz’s Employee Assistance Program, a free counselling service available 24 hours a day/7 days a week all year by calling 1 888 687-9197.

The workshop covered mental illness, stigma related to it and ways to provide support. Mental health was described as “the capacity to feel, think and act in ways that enhance one’s ability to enjoy life and deal with challenges.”

Summer is almost here and Dzʿ's Peace Garden continues to bloom and evolve. Here is a photo captured by Suzanne Bellefleur (Student Services, Dzʿ Library) on Friday.

We wish everyone a peaceful and relaxing summer, with lots of time to smell the flowers, enjoy your loved ones and do your favourite activities.
