Mental Health Resources

March 24th, 2020

Our lives have been chaotic over the past week, and many of us are experiencing anxiety and stress. Working from home while caring for children at home is challenging. Even getting groceries is stressful.

If you need support, here is a list of Mental Health Resources, prepared by our Counselling team in Student Services.

Pascahl Scott and her Human Resources team wish to remind you about the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a resource offered to all employees of Dzʿ. You can call the EAP for emotional and psychological support.

Walking is a great low impact exercise that enhances our overall health and well-being. It gets us outside and make us feel alive. Walking is a great way to cope with stress and anxiety at this difficult time. It also helps us to improve our cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, body composition and lowers our risk…

Seniors: we have helpers available

March 24th, 2020

About a dozen employees of Dzʿ responded last week to let us know they are available to help the seniors in our community. If you are a Dzʿ employee or retiree over 70 years old, please let us know if you would like a telephone visitor or help getting groceries.

Contact Carey-Ann Pawsey or Lucy Segal to get help or offer to be a helper.

March 24th, 2020

Can't go out? Then go in! The current situation provides an unparalleled opportunity to practice meditation.

With everything falling apart, we have the chance to examine hitherto neglected aspects of ourselves. Daniel Goldsmith (Humanities) is offering guided meditation every day from 2-2:30 p.m., alternating between calm centering and compassion practices.

Anyone is welcome; feel free to share!

In the 2017 film, Going in Style, Michael Caine’s character found himself in the midst of a bank heist. As he handed his wallet to the robber, the masked thief gave it back to him, telling the old man, “It is a culture’s duty to take care of its elderly”. I’d like to extend that…

Stay home and save lives

March 17th, 2020

Social distancing is the way we can "flatten the curve" of the COVID-19 pandemic. To protect the most vulnerable and our healthcare system:

  • Stay home and avoid unnecessary outings
  • Avoid all close contact with people unless necessary
  • Never shake hands
  • Cancel/avoid all travel
  • No parties, no play dates and no playgrounds
  • Read a good book or watch a movie
  • Listen to music
  • Learn something
  • Catch up with friends and family online or write a letter
  • Create, dream, meditate, pray
  • Clean up, organize, repair and renovate
  • Walk, run, bike
