182 students have received DCFAB bursary to date

May 18th, 2021

A total of $ 127,250 has been distributed through the Dzʿ Financial Aid Bursary (DCFAB) to 182 students to date. The average bursary was $699.

As a response to the economic hardships brought about by the pandemic, the DCFAB was set up last fall by the Dzʿ Student Union (DSU), the Student Services team of the College and the Dzʿ Foundation (DCF). The Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur has provided additional support.

“We are working to ensure that Dzʿ students can continue their education without interruption. The creation of the DCFAB reflects our commitment to promote excellence in education, especially during difficult times," said Ursula Cabral of the DCF.

Students can continue to apply for the bursary through the DCF website.

Donations are still needed to keep helping our students in this unprecedented situation.

John F. Kennedy High School partnering with Dzʿ to be a Living School

May 4th, 2021

John F. Kennedy High School has just signed an agreement with the Sustainability Office at Dzʿ to be a Living School.

A number of schools have already adopted the Living School approach with Dzʿ and this is the first school in the English Montreal School Board.

They will be planting fruit trees, growing vegetables and implementing composting and recycling among other projects. In addition, they will develop a climate action plan.

Attributes of a Living School can be found here: /sustainable/wp-content/uploads/sites/175/Living-Schools-Attributes-Chart-2018_JUNE-20-1.pdf

When the health situation permits, tours will resume of Dzʿ’s Living Campus for elementary and high schools. More info to come!

Earth Week report

May 4th, 2021

The Sustainability Office, in collaboration with departments at Dzʿ, enjoyed hosting two weeks of Earth Week events from April 19-30, 2021.

Events included:

  • Spring beehive opening
  • Climate action panel
  • Environmental racism
  • Eco-anxiety short plays
  • Well-being hobbies
  • Bike workshop
  • Illustration project showcase
  • Dzʿ hidden world tour
  • and many more!

Although our in-person plans had to be adapted, we were still able to touch on all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our 20 presentations and events attracted close to 400 participants both within the Dzʿ community and externally.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions we could not have gatherings, therefore, Sustainability Office staff and interns planted 300+ vegetable and herb seedlings and recorded the Spring beehive opening.

We want to thank the Earth Week planning committee, Dzʿ faculty, support staff and students who led activities throughout the weeks. Although Earth Week is done, we encourage everyone to continue the conversations and raising awareness on all the issues discussed.

Please support our local eco-friendly vendors by shopping here!

You can also purchase donated student Artwork: /sustainable/wp-content/uploads/sites/175/Student-Earth-Week-Art-Sale2.pdf

All funds raised will go towards the Peace Garden fund of the Dzʿ Foundation.

Both links will be accessible throughout the month of May - great ideas for Mother’s Day gifts!
