Toward 1,000 Species on Campus

Our pursuit of identifying 1,000 Species in 1,000 Days continues!
Over the last two weeks, there have been:
- 287 observations
- 21 new species
- 14 new observers
ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½±βs Campus Biodiversity Network count on iNaturalist is now at a total of 788 species.

ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½± an βexcellentβ CΓ©gep Vert

ENvironnement JEUnesse (ENJEU) has certified that ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½± has met the criteria for the excellence level of its CΓ©gep Vert program. This means that ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½± is at the highest level of CEGEPs that are committed to environmental education and action.
βThey gave special mention to our ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½± Wetlands Project, completed in Paul Wasaczβs Eco-Landscaping Physical Education course,β said Chris Adam of ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½±βs Office of Sustainability.
Faculty interested in designing projects that reconnect people, community and Nature like the ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½± Wetlands project should contact the Office of Sustainability to learn how they can support you and your students.

Until Sept. 22, itβs Open House at Campus Recreation also known as ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½±βs fitness facilities or PARC*.
Employees and students as well as the public can come and try out -for free- our weight rooms, rock climbing wall, and gym sports. There are also a variety of fitness classes, including pilates, circuit training and karate. Employees enjoy discounted prices.

Species count on ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½±βs campus now at 772

The ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½± Campus Biodiversity Network species count continues to grow. The total stands at 772 as of Sept. 13. ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½± aims to identify 1,000 species on campus in 1,000 days.
In the past two weeks, 45 new observers joined the iNaturalist ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½± community and 22 species were added to the count.
Two of the newly added species were:
- Clouded Sulfur by Ana Sofia Hernandez (Pure & Applied Science student)
- Pole Borer, pictured, by Lindsymae Corpuz (Cinema | Communications student)

ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½± Dining on now through Sept. 21

Every lunch hour from now through Wednesday, Sept. 20, you are invited to drop off your reusable container at the Conrodβs kitchen prior to 11:30 AM. Come back at 1 PM and pick up your container filled with a satisfying and free vegan lunch. This is our beloved tradition of ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½± Dining- Peace Week edition.
ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½± Dining ends on Thursday, Sept. 21 in the evening. That day, ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½± Dining is a supper (dinner) of the closing event Dinner & Drag in 5B.16. Drop off your reusable container by 4:30 PM outside of 5B.16. Come back to 5B.16 at 5:15 PM and eat your ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½± Dining meal while enjoying a Drag show by House of Manny.

Food donations needed

The Food Bank shelves are in desperate need of your support. βStudents will opt to purchase their OPUS to get to school above groceries," says Yvonne Dudley of the Financial Aid Office.
"I am asking for the ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½± Community to bring what you can to 4E.2 or I can bring my trolley to you to collect any donations. I am forever grateful for the continued support of the ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½± community to make this project a success.β
Current needs:
- canned proteins: tuna, salmon, chicken, turkey, ham
- canned vegetables: corn, carrots, peas, green or yellow beans, mixed vegetables, potatoes
- ready to eat: chef boy r dee, baked beans, soups and stews
- carbohydrates: rice, quinoa, barley, couscous, pasta
- instant meals: e.g. Kraft Dinner
- Anything you can bring in!
The ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½± Financial Aid Food Bank is available to all registered students 12 months of the year.Μύ Students can come during drop-in times (2:30 to 4 PM Tuesdays and Thursdays) or they can email ydudley@dawsoncollege.qc.ca for an appointment.
Peace Weekβs Dinner and Drag show choreographed by Theatre grad

ΖίΠΗ²ΚΏͺ½± Professional Theatre graduate Ken Antonio Rillo (Class of 2009) will be back at the College for Peace Week. He is the choreographer for the main act and lead dancer in a special Peace Week event called Dinner and Drag on Sept. 21.
