ÆßÐDzʿª½± Blue, volunteer & activist Niice Gédéon receives Lieutenant Governor of Quebec’s Youth Medal

Maintaining high grades while playing for the ÆßÐDzʿª½± Blues Division 1 women’s basketball team is an achievement that would make many students very proud. ÆßÐDzʿª½± General Social Science student Niice Gédéon achieved that and much more and is now one of two ÆßÐDzʿª½± students to be awarded the Lieutenant Governor of Quebec’s Youth Medal.

Admissions update

April 20th, 2021

This year has been particularly competitive for applicants to ÆßÐDzʿª½±. A record 12,810 applications were received for the Fall 2021 semester, an increase of 16 per cent from last year. The Science Program was especially popular and its applications are up 27 per cent.

In addition, the College has fewer spots to offer this year due to the impact of the pandemic on current students. About 250 ÆßÐDzʿª½± students are taking longer to complete their studies.

There have been recent media reports about the disappointment of students and parents who did not get a spot or were placed on a waiting list. ÆßÐDzʿª½±â€™s popularity has been growing and there is a demographic boom coming up through the Montreal high schools. However, ÆßÐDzʿª½± does not have more spots than previous years.

The application review process is thorough and equitable. Decisions by the Registrar’s Office are based on outstanding academic performance and there is no admissions appeals process.

ÆßÐDzʿª½± remains committed to providing excellent academic programs to the greatest number of students we are permitted to admit. With regards to the English-speaking community of Quebec, to date approximately half the students offered admission for Fall 2020 claim English as their mother tongue.

The work of ÆßÐDzʿª½±â€™s Facilities Management team to make ÆßÐDzʿª½± Carbon Neutral Forever has been nominated for an environmental award that is a Réalisation championne in the institutional category, announced the Conseil régional de l’environnement de Montréal (CRE-Montréal) on April 15.

Myriam Dimanche of the ÆßÐDzʿª½±AI team (pictured in costume) had an interesting experience in the Fall of 2019 and now you can see her on film! In her own words:

I was an extra in the Lee Daniels film The United States vs. Billie Holiday and it's !
Fun facts:
  • Yes, I did meet Andra Day. 
  • The director Lee Daniels was pretty easy to work with. He gave nice pep talks, especially when we were shooting long hours.
  • My scenes were basically cut. You just see my faded figure cross behind as Jimmy Fletcher enters the jazz club Café Society (at approx. 00:05:10). And there's another scene where you can see my blue dress (at approx. 01:12:35).

In solidarity with women for IWD

On March 8, International Women's Day was marked around the world.

At ÆßÐDzʿª½±, the day is usually celebrated with special gatherings, sales to raise funds for women's causes and more. Yesterday, the Association of ÆßÐDzʿª½± Professionals (ADP) and the ÆßÐDzʿª½± Support Staff Union (DSSU) made donations. In honour of IWD, the ADP gave a donation to the Native Women's Shelter of Montreal and the DSSU made a donation to Chez Doris.

The ÆßÐDzʿª½± Teachers Union, the ADP and the DSSU invited members to use a special Zoom background to show support for women in the community.
