Earth Week begins April 17

Dzʿ's Sustainability Office and other departments are excited to host a two-week Earth Week event. Students and employees can participate in multiple events from April 17-April 28.

Check out all the Earth Week events listed on the the calendar often as new events are expected to be added. Earth Week 2023 touches on all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Here is a sample of the Earth Week events to date and more are being added:

  • Eco-Friendly Market April 17-21
  • Eco-Cafe in Oliver's 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day April 17-28
  • Garden-Dig-Ins
  • Living Campus tours
  • Bike and Clothing repair workshops
  • Meet the Honeybees
  • Panel discussion with the Kahnawà:ke Youth Climate Collective: Iakwatonhontsanónsta'ts

Tickets now on sale for Artists in Bloom!

April 5th, 2023

The 25th annual Artists in Bloom art auction will be taking place on Thursday, April 20 in 3C.1 with the doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and painting beginning at 6 p.m. The money raised this year will be going to Dzʿ’s Living Campus/Sustainability.

We are returning to the live event that you all have come to know and love. There will also be an online component (link to be available starting April 11) where you can purchase your ticket for the event as well as prints designed by Illustration students.

Printed tickets can now be purchased in the following locations: 4A.1 (cash only) and 2E.6 (cash or card).

We will also be in the Upper Atrium (in front of escalators) from April 11-14 and 17-19 for tickets and/or prints.

Adults $20 in advance
$25 at the door/online
Students of any institution (with ID) $15
12 and under Free

 


Dzʿ community mobilizing to identify 1,000 species in 1,000 days

All students and employees at Dzʿ are invited to join an initiative to identify 1,000 species in 1,000 days on Dzʿ’s downtown Montreal campus.

“We believe that identifying 1,000 species is possible but does pose a significant challenge,” said Brian Mader, project lead and a biology teacher at Dzʿ. “We invite all students and employees to join . The more people from our community who participate, the higher the chances of reaching our goal. This project will also nurture our Dzʿ community and encourage people to go outside and enjoy Nature.”

Law, Society and Justice student is a 2023 Loran Scholar!

Changemaker Mariana Cueto Mendoza is one of 36 students across Canada to win the Loran Scholarship, the country’s largest and most comprehensive four-year undergraduate award, valued at $100,000.

Interview with screenwriter & Dzʿ grad Ryan Christopher Churchill

Ryan Christopher Churchill (Creative Arts, 1999) is the screenwriter of Simulant, a science fiction thriller that will be released in Canada on April 7.

Simulant tells the story of a humanoid A.I.'s attempt to win over a widow's heart, which places it in the path of a government agent trying to stop the rise of machine consciousness. The film stars some of the most popular actors right now: Simu Liu, Sam Worthington, Jordana Brewster and Robbie Amell. The trailer can be viewed .

Literary duo Arizona and Heather O’Neill share thoughts on Dzʿ experience

Ahead of their guest appearance at a Dzʿ Reads event on March 22, Arizona O’Neill (Fine Arts, 2013) and Heather O’Neill (Social Science, 1992) shared some thoughts on their Dzʿ experiences, the creative process and writing. Thanks to organizer and English teacher Sarah Gilbert for interviewing the mother-daughter duo.

VIB Tour stops at Dzʿ March 29

March 22nd, 2023

A fun and free event promoting well-being for all and physical fitness is coming to Dzʿ Wednesday, March 29 from 11:45 a.m. to 1:50 p.m. in 3C.1.

Students are invited to for . The program includes Pound (“rocking out”) fitness sessions, glow-in-the-dark yoga, free snacks and fun. If there is space, staff are also welcome to attend.

“The VIB tour only makes a few campus stops every year so I think Dzʿ students are lucky to have this opportunity,” said Julie Gosselin of Student Health Services, Dzʿ’s VIB coordinator. The event is sponsored by the RSEQ, Sports Experts and the Quebec Government.


Four Dzʿ students presented abstract at Lunar and Planetary Science conference

When it was time to submit an abstract to the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in Texas, the Dzʿ student team was not sure which category described them best.

“I think we are the first CEGEP students to present research at the LPI! Undergraduate was the category closest to us,” said Darcy Loane-Billings (Pure & Applied Science), lead author of the abstract and second-year student at Dzʿ.

25th Edition of Artists in Bloom is April 20

Springtime means that Artists in Bloom is back! The event will be in-person on Thursday, April 20 at 5:30 p.m. in 3C.1 It will also be possible to buy prints online from April 11-28. This year will be the fundraising event’s 25th annual edition— a quarter century! We are excited to welcome you to the event and to see what our talented student artists will produce. Advance tickets are only $20 and will be for sale as of Monday, March 27 in 2E.6 and 4A.1 Your ticket gives you entrance to the event, one drink and hors d'oeuvres.

Legendary Jazz Pianist Oliver Jones honoured at Dzʿ

On March 10, a very special and intimate evening was held at Dzʿ to honour a true legend in the world of jazz, pianist Dr. Oliver Jones. The event was a resounding success, with representatives from the college and the community coming together to pay tribute to Jones' inspiring life and legacy for promoting future generations pursue post-secondary education.
