Great attendance at IVGD playtesting event

The Independent Video Game Design program held its bimonthly indie game playtesting event on Feb. 23.

Over 100 attendees and students visited throughout the evening to playtest and provide valuable feedback on a variety of games from local developers, while getting the chance to network with the gaming community.

14 teams showcased new games in various stages of development, including IVGD alumni Étienne Robichaud Morinville, Julien Escobar Hellou, Steven Steffen, Yan-Simon Martel Lussier, as well as IVGD co-founder and teacher Osama Dorias.

The event also included games by Baobab Games, DarZal Games, Félix Gagné, Foolbox Studio, Queensguard Games, Studio Moka, Tales Mariano, Vitam Aeternam Studio, Carbon-Based Games and Kidney Bean Studio.

The next playtesting event will be Friday, April 12, from 6 - 9 PM, in 3C.1.


Students interview multidisciplinary artist Craig Commanda

Craig Commanda is a multidisciplinary artist from the Algonquin nation at Kitigan Zibi. His current exhibition, WÌDJIDEYAMAWOWIN / INTERCONNECTION, features prints, videos, and complex sculptural beadwork at the Warren G. Flowers Art Gallery until March 16. On a recent Friday afternoon, two visual arts students, Katya Kieran & Lisseth Llorente Ruiz, had the chance to ask Craig a few questions about his artistic practice and this exhibition.

Indigenous Peoples Week 2024

WHAT: Dz԰ɲóԳ󲹳 – we are celebrating – Indigenous Peoples Week 2024

WHEN: Monday, March 25 to Thursday, March 28

WHERE: Conrods, Three Sisters Garden, and other locations at Dzʿ

WHO: All events are open to the entire Dzʿ community and to the public

Save the dates! Indigenous Peoples Week 2024 will feature a mini Pow Wow, Indigenous craft vendors, soap stone carving, maple sap boiling and so much more. A detailed schedule will be published soon on the Dzʿ website, accessible from the homepage.


C’est la Francofête à Dzʿ !

The entire Dzʿ community is invited to enjoy the French language and culture at Dzʿ’s annual Francofête, which is taking place over three days and two evenings, Tuesday, March 26 to Thursday, March 28.

The organizers have put together a diverse program, including film screenings, a poetry reading with three poets, a maple syrup experience, an evening with the Théâtre de la Ligue Nationale d’Improvisation, and a field trip to the Monument-National in partnership with the École nationale de théâtre.

All events at Dzʿ will be in 5B.16 and are open to the Dzʿ community and the public. To reserve a class, email Laetitia Desanti.

W/GS Women’s Day fundraiser and button making activity

The Women’s/Gender Studies Certificate faculty and students organized a number of events during the week leading up to Women’s Day and the events continue.

On Friday, March 8 at 10 AM, there will be a Bake Sale fundraiser & Button-making Activity in Conrod’s (2F.4). Proceeds will benefit the Financial Aid Food Bank.

Montreal Insect Show coming to Dzʿ March 9

The Salon des Insectes de Montréal (Montreal Insect Show) will be at Dzʿ on Saturday, March 9. It is the first time the show is being put on since the pandemic.

Organized by insect lovers, including Dzʿ's Brian Mader (Biology), the goal of the fair is to promote the many interesting aspects of insects. It will be in 3C.1 from 9 AM on 5 PM on March 9.

Dzʿ's Living Campus will be featured and the show will offer opportunities to

  • See almost 150,000 insects and creatures from around the world
  • Touch and hold live arthropods and butterflies
  • Taste insects

Still time to register for Winter Wellness activity Feb. 27

The Peace and Sustainability Winter Wellness Series will launch on Tuesday, Feb. 27 with a Living Campus biophilic tour and a hands-on indoor gardening workshop. All participants will receive a house plant!

The plan is to offer a wellness workshop/event each month of the semester.

To participate in the Feb. 27 workshop, which will take place from 12 PM to 1 PM, you must register.

Students and local developers host playtesting event Feb. 23

The Independent Video Game Design program is presenting its bimonthly independent game playtesting event in room 3C.1 of Dzʿ on Friday, Feb. 23 from 6 PM to 9 PM.

The Playtest @ IVGD event will showcase over a dozen new independent video games created by local developers including current Dzʿ students, graduates, IVGD faculty, and several Montreal-based indie studios.

Come celebrate the emerging talent in Montreal's continually growing game development scene by trying out the games, chatting with developers and enjoying a few snacks.

The event is free and open to all ages. Full details available in the link below.
