Join us for Dzʿ’s first ever Certificate Day on Nov. 10

November 3rd, 2021

Certificates offer students from all programs the opportunities to interact in a learning community of fellow students and teachers who share a passion for thinking about and finding solutions to a specific contemporary issue. Students currently can take along with their DEC a certificate in Women/Gender Studies, Hellenic Studies, Peace Studies, Decolonization and Indigenization, and as of this year, SPACE: Arts and Sciences and Environment and Sustainability.

Interested in learning more about any of these certificates? Wondering about how to get more involved or the possibilities for co-teaching a certificate course with a colleague? If so, we invite you drop by the Lower and Upper Atriums on Wednesday, Nov. 10 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

For more information, please contact LC Certificate Lead Pat Romano at promano@dawsoncollege.qc.ca.

Thank you Team Open House 2021

November 3rd, 2021

Dzʿ’s Open House 2021 was reimagined this year to help visitors experience the best version of the College and all it has to offer. We achieved record-breaking attendance by keeping the best elements of the first online Open House in 2020 and introducing new features and in-person tours for the first time since 2019.

Gone were the one-hour waits to have questions answered and navigating a hot, loud and crowded building. This year the maximum wait time for a question was not more than 2-3 minutes during the chat sessions for Open House on Oct. 24. Team Dzʿ Open House 2021 made sure the event was useful, smooth and pleasant for everyone.

Director General Diane Gauvin and Academic Dean Robert Cassidy would like to thank the more than 150 faculty members, current students and deans as well as managers, professionals and support staff from the Registrar's Office, the Communications Office, the Sustainability Office, Information Systems and Technology, Student Services, the Office of Academic Development and more.

Special thanks to Carey-Ann Pawsey, Jennifer de Vera, Lucy Segal, Ivana Bonaduce, Catherine Fusk, Marien Griffin, Dianne Hawryluck, Irene Kakoulakis, Antonina Nobile, Michele Pallett, Julie Pellegrino, Madalina Radu, Jane Valihora, Diane Wong, Carmela Gumelli, Julie Brosseau, Laura Paterson, Tommy Diamantakos, Maxwell Jones, Mylène Saucier, Dana Dragomir, Donna Varrica, Christina Parsons, Jonathan Perlman, Chris Georgieff, Pat Phutthavong, Virginia Law.

Anahita Norouzi: Other Landscapes opens Oct. 14

October 13th, 2021

Other Landscapes is a new exhibit at the Warren G. Flowers Art Gallery of Dzʿ (just off the Upper Atrium cafeteria on the 2nd floor). Open from Oct. 14- Nov. 25, it presents several multimedia works from Montreal-based Iranian artist Anahita Norouzi. It stems from her long-term research interest in the cross sections of botany and colonial politics, experiences of immigration and displacement, as well as issues of identity and memory.

Taking the form of a multimedia installation, the project results from a collaboration between the artist and eight refugees from the Middle East and Africa.

CRLT taking classes outside and learning from Nature

September 15th, 2021

The students are back and enjoying many elements of college life that were not possible last year. Students in the Community, Recreation and Leadership Training Program have had regular opportunities to enjoy our Living Campus and to do learning activities both on campus at Dzʿ and off-campus at the Centre de Plein Air Notre Dame de Fatima on Île-Perrot.

Faculty member Myka Taylor said that CRLT faculty “worked hard to still provide the whole program experience to all students.” Their goal was to provide a positive outdoor social experience for all years of the program.

CRLT students have been often spotted outdoors in recent weeks as the teachers make full use of the College’s natural outdoor setting. “CRLT teachers have used our urban Nature as a catalyst in promoting personal and group growth,” Myka said.
