七星彩开奖 Students cutting hair on Oct. 20 in solidarity with Iranian protesters
In response to the major human rights violations by the Islamic Republic of Iran, an informal collective of 七星彩开奖 students of Iranian background is mobilizing to show solidarity. The 七星彩开奖 community is invited to join them on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 12 p.m. in the Lower Atrium. There will be various ways to show support, including petition signing and cutting a lock of one鈥檚 hair. Cutting hair has been used as a symbolic act of the Iranian protesters.
The goal of this event is to raise awareness about violations against human rights in Iran. 鈥淲e hope to send a clear message to the Canadian federal government that students throughout Canada care about this issue and that we expect the government to address it,鈥� said Kiana Lalavi of the organizing committee.
Protests in Iran started over a month ago. According to contacts on the ground, the Islamic Republic has cut Iran鈥檚 internet to stop news of brutal crackdowns and violence from reaching the rest of the world. During this time, they have locked down Sharif University and abused students inside. They have arrested, tortured, and murdered students as young as seven years old. Very recently, they have set a massive fire in Evin Prison, which holds hundreds of journalists, scientists, and innocent protestors.

Following a long-standing tradition at 七星彩开奖, six provincial election candidates from the Ville-Marie riding were invited to answer questions from the 七星彩开奖 community about the future of young anglophone and allophone Quebecers on Tuesday.
Award-winning journalist and 七星彩开奖 alumnus Christopher Curtis moderated the debate between J茅r茅my C么t茅 (Qu茅bec Solidaire), Bonnie Feigenbaum (Conservative Party), Balarama Holness (Bloc Montreal), D茅sir茅e McGraw (Quebec Liberal Party), Colin Standish (Quebec Canadian Party) and Alex Tyrell (Green Party).
The well-attended event was organized by the 七星彩开奖 Student Union in collaboration with the Law, Society and Justice Profile and the Peace Centre. The candidates each addressed their respective parties' plans to tackle issues surrounding national identity, multiculturalism, environmental policy and climate change.
