Division 1 Women’s Basketball win provincials, off to Nationals
ÆßÐDzʿª½±â€™s women’s Division 1 basketball team has captured gold at the RSEQ provincials by beating Champlain St-Lambert in the semi-finals and perennial adversary Montmorency in the finals. Now it’s off to Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick for the CCAA National Championship March 15-18. The first game on the first day pits the Blues, the #2 ranked team in Canada, against the Capilano Blues of the PACWEST Conference.
The team went undefeated all through the regular season with a 14 and 0 record. The incredible efforts of the team were acknowledged by the RSEQ Conference at the awards ceremony, recognizing the following individuals:
- Trevor Williams was named RSEQ Conference Coach of the Year
- Roxane Makolo was named Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in the RSEQ Conference
- Nelly Owusu, Defensive Player of the Year RSEQ
- 1st all-star team: Roxane Makolo and Mackenzie Ash-Smith
- 2nd all-star team: Nelly Owusu and Éléanore Marciszewski
- Academic merit: Dahomée Forgues
On the men’s side, the Division 1 basketball team won bronze after being defeated in the semi-finals by Collège Brébeuf, but beating Vanier for the medal. The team went 11-5 for a 4th place league finish in the regular season. Bahaide Haidara was named to the 1st all-star team, while brothers Nudy and Judy Georges each came away with honours, Nudy for 2nd all-star team and Judy for Academic Merit.
