Academic Standing and Advancement Policy
To be in good standing and to register unconditionally, students must meet the requirements of the College Academic Standing and Advancement Policy, as well as the Program requirements.

Program Policy
Academic Standing
- Students who fail the same concentration course twice will be expelled from the program.
- Students who fail three or more concentration courses in one semester will be expelled from the program.
Advancement
- To advance to term three, students must have passed at least three General Education courses. These must include at least one French, or mise-Ã -niveau French, or English, or remedial English course.
- To advance to term five, students must have passed at least six General Education courses which must include at least two courses from the following: French, mise-Ã -niveau French, remedial English, and English courses.
- To advance to term six, students must have passed all term one to five Specific Education (concentration) courses and cannot have more than two General Education courses outstanding from the previous terms.
Students who are prevented from advancing in their Specific Education (concentration) courses will be allowed to take General Education courses and must submit a request for permission to resume studies or a program transfer before the subsequent semester (fall or winter). Students not taking any courses in a semester must reapply to the College by the application deadline.
Exceptional Circumstances
In extenuating circumstances the Program Coordinator may recommend an exception to the Academic Standing and Advancement Policy to the Program Dean.
Professional Conduct Policy
Students are expected to exhibit behaviour appropriate for Laboratory Technologists referred to as “professional conduct”. Students must display consistent courtesy, teamwork and cooperative behaviour toward faculty, staff and fellow students. Professional conduct must be displayed in all activities associated with the program. Students who exhibit inappropriate behaviour may be removed from the program. The procedure for removing students from the program on the basis of professional conduct will be applied in accordance with the College’s Institutional Student Evaluation Policy (ISEP).
Some examples of inappropriate behaviour are:
- Malicious use of laboratory equipment or material;
- Display of behaviour detrimental to the learning or work environment (e.g. continual rudeness, interference with other students’ learning, etc.);
- Unethical practices in the reporting or the alteration of data, including misappropriation or destruction of other students’ work;
- Refusal to follow instructions given by staff or faculty regarding any use of equipment, material, or safe working practices in laboratories.
The expelled student may appeal the decision to the Academic Dean.
