Current Projects

Adding to what we did previously, this year we are tackling more projects, including;

  1. Design and implement an interdisciplinary simulation scenario with Diagnostic Imaging and Radiation Oncology students intervening on a patient going into anaphylactic shock during a CT scan.
  2. Design and implement an interdisciplinary simulation scenario with Physiotherapy Technology and Social Service students intervening on a geriatric patient who is resistant to leave their home.
  3. Design an interprofessional education learning opportunity between Medical Ultrasound Technology and Physiotherapy Technology students where they work on a common cardiac case.
  4. Design an interprofessional education learning opportunity between Biomedical Laboratory Technology and Nursing students on the importance of procurement and specimen sampling.
  5. Design an interprofessional education learning opportunity between five of the disciplines regarding the common skill of patient transfers.
  6. Design a common medical case, a prostate cancer patient, study that all disciplines can use throughout the students learning.
  7. Develop a mechanism to recruit and include more real-life patients into the current and future IPE learning opportunities.
  8. Continually support and maintain current IPE learning opportunities throughout the students 3-year journey. See video .
  9. Continually learn how we design by modifying our design approach. See current model .
  10. Continually search and apply for research grant opportunities to help determine the effectiveness of an IPE program.
  11. Continually support the design and implementation of para-academic opportunities for the students to learn from each other.

Previous Projects

Academic year 2021-2022

  1. Creating common medical cases across the 7 med tech and social service disciplines – funding from a 2-year ECQ grant
  2. Completing a 2-day workshop on medical simulation and the writing of simulation cases
  3. Examining branching scenario software and how it can be used in the context of IPE
  4. Implementing a Role Clarification in class activity between first year students across 4 disciplines
  5. Implementing an online forum for students within the med tech and social service programs to connect and support each other
  6. Examining the overlaps between the seven disciplines and extracting common program competencies.
  7. Working with the Learning Communities program to explore the common program competency of team functioning amongst the internship and fieldwork courses.
