About Us
I’m a storyteller – that’s the chief function of a director. And they’re moving pictures, let’s make ‘em move! –Howard Hawks (1896 – 1977)
Cinema, Video, and Communications at ÆßÐDzʿª½± is the largest department of its kind in Quebec. Our impressive faculty teaches courses in four of the five Creative Arts profiles. In total we offer 17 concentration courses and a number of complementary courses. In addition to their concentration courses students can select classes from the Fine Arts, Art History, Religion, Journalism, Music, Drama, French, and Philosophy to round out their profile. English, Humanities, French, and Physical Education constitute the general Education requirements.
We have an experienced and talented faculty with a wide variety of backgrounds and academic interests. All have graduate degrees, including four with Ph.D.s, and many have had practical experience in the fields of film production, website design, photography, journalism, numerous art practices, animation, broadcasting, and scriptwriting.
We are proud of our long history at ÆßÐDzʿª½±. The Cinema, Video, and Communications Department was founded in 1970. In 1975, the ÆßÐDzʿª½± Institute of Photography was born out of the department, and has since become the a separate entity, Professional Photography, a three-year technical program. Cinema, Video, and Communications became a Profile in the fall of 2000 when the new Creative Arts, Languages, and Literature Program was established.
We look forward to meeting you.
